I was given a quote, and the reception explicitly assured me the final cost is very likely to be lower, and it’s up to the vet to decide. Instead, my final bill exceeded that estimate, totalling over $45,000. This included 12,000 per eye), intended solely to prevent skin folds from irritating my cat. And this is accumulated over visit, surgery, and even final checkup. We had no real choice. Were we supposed to let our cat suffer with chronic irritation? But to be taken advantage of in such a vulnerable position is deeply disheartening. Must pet owners empty their savings or go into debt just to afford basic veterinary welfare? To put this in perspective, my own LASIK surgery, which is highly intricate and receives no government subsidy, cost less per eye. The disparity is staggering. It is clear that the attending veterinarian prioritized maximizing the bill over providing ethical care. CityU Vet Clinic must do better for the Hong Kong community, or it will forfeit the trust of its clients. I certainly will not be returning.
My cat, Wu Jai, was hospitalized at a local clinic due to seizures. After several days of testing and an ultrasound, they only found that her intestinal wall was thickened, suggesting she might have IBD (Inflammatory Bowel Disease) or cancer. However, her blood sugar and blood pressure remained critically low, and they could not find the root cause. Fortunately, we made the decision to ask the clinic for a referral to CityU VMC’s Internal Medicine department. Even during the short two-hour transfer between hospitals, her condition plummeted drastically. Her blood sugar dropped so low it was almost unmeasurable. Thankfully, upon arriving at CityU VMC, she was immediately rushed to the ICU for emergency stabilization, and further diagnostic tests were run. The vet there was highly experienced; after discussing her history with us, she immediately figured out what the problem was. It turned out she was suffering from Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency (EPI). Because of this, she couldn't absorb any nutrients from her food and kept losing weight, leading to severe malnutrition, which in turn caused her dangerously low blood sugar and blood pressure. Although the lab samples had to be sent overseas and the results would take two to three weeks, the vet immediately initiated treatment based on this diagnosis. In just five short days, she brought my cat back from the brink of death, and she was even well enough to be discharged to wait for the lab results at home. Ultimately, the test results confirmed that the vet's diagnosis was 100% correct. I would like to express my deepest gratitude to Dr. Marie-Laure—she is incredibly experienced, professional, and full of love and compassion.
I would like to thank the entire staff at CityU VMC for their compassionate support but special mention to Ms. Lee Kang Shi Janet, she has been truly exceptional in her role in Client Relations and Growth. I was incredibly overwhelmed when I walked into the emergency clinic at CityU VMC with my very sick dog Frosty. The moment I arrived, she guided me through the full admission process and helped calm me while everything felt too much to handle. The next morning, I met with Dr. Virginia Merino, an internal medicine specialist. She was incredibly thorough in explaining my pet, Frosty’s, condition. We truly appreciate Dr. Virginia’s professionalism, compassion, and dedication. After receiving the heartbreaking news of Frosty’s diagnosis, we made the difficult decision to set him free from all of his discomforts through euthanasia. It was the most painful choice we have ever had to make. Dr. Virginia and Janet supported me throughout the process—physically, mentally, and emotionally. Janet also guided me through the cremation process and everything that followed, with such kindness, patience, and care. I’m sincerely grateful to the whole team at CityU VMC for their presence during the most difficult time. Thank you, Janet, Dr Virginia, all the staff and doctors who looked after my baby and for your compassionate support and the care you provide to both clients and their pets. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this clinic to any pet owner in Hong Kong.
I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to your entire team for the outstanding care you provided to my beloved Fei Fei. Throughout the entire process—from admission to surgery and discharge—the professionalism and attentiveness of your staff were truly exceptional. Every detail was handled with such care that all my worries and concerns were completely eased. I wish to especially commend Dr. Kate Forster. Her surgical expertise is remarkable, and thanks to her skill, Fei Fei was able to recover smoothly. I sincerely believe her surgical ability is second to none in Hong Kong. Your team not only healed Fei Fei’s body but also brought peace of mind to our family. It is a great blessing to have encountered such a dedicated and compassionate veterinary team. With heartfelt appreciation and respect,
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Our family is so grateful to Dr. Kevin, an amazing ophthalmologist who took such wonderful care of our cat, Ha Peng. He was incredibly patient, listened carefully to all our concerns, and explained everything about the surgery in a very clear and reassuring way. Ha Peng was diagnosed with feline corneal sequestrum, which I learned is quite common for British Shorthair cats. Thanks to Dr. Kevin’s expertise and gentle care, our little cutie recovered beautifully — and she still has her bright, bling-bling eyes! We truly appreciate Dr. Kevin’s professionalism, compassion, and dedication. Millions of thanks from our whole family (and Ha Peng too)! Highly recommended to any pet parent in need of a caring and skilled eye specialist.
